Editing symbols

When you edit a symbol, Flash updates all the instances in the movie. You edit symbols in symbol-editing mode. You can edit such that the symbol you are editing is all that you see, or you can use the Edit in Place command to edit the symbol in context with the other objects on the Stage. Other objects appear grayed out to distinguish them from the symbol you are editing.

To edit a symbol in place:

Select an instance of the symbol on the Stage and right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) and choose Edit in Place.

To edit a symbol in a new window:

Select an instance of the symbol on the Stage and right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) and choose Edit in New Window.
Double-click a symbol's icon in the Library window.

To edit a symbol in symbol-editing mode:

Select an instance of the symbol on the Stage and choose Edit > Edit Symbol, or right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) and choose Edit.
